IN SPACE.

Over the last year, I have been wading through different rituals to connect me spiritually and to ground my mental health. For me personally, I have felt drawn to the wisdom and benefits of a few eastern practices. One of those is meditation.

First of all, I have ADD and I don’t know if you’ve ever tried to meditate with ADD but it’s kind of like a cosmic pinball machine. It is NOT an easy task. I can’t do it very long and it takes work but I think it’s worth it.

Secondly, if you have the inkling to come for me because you’re worried about my spiritual health, don’t. God and I are just fine.

Anyways, while I have embraced a few of these rituals, the skeptic in me can’t help but be challenged sometimes. This morning, I looked up a short guided meditation on youtube to try and center myself and slow my mind. Guys…I felt like I was in Zoolander. I don’t know how else to say it. I was holding back giggles every time the echoing voice finished a sentence “iiiiin spaaaaaace.” As I am barely holding it together, a Peloton ad came on. That’s when I called it. 5 minutes of me picturing Ben Stiller saying “meditation is so hot right now” and then an exercise ad. That was my meditation this morning.

I wanted to share so that you can know, if you’re on any type of journey, there’s no right way to do it. In health, in spirituality, in whatever…there will be good days and bad. There will be wins and losses. There will be days you meditate for 20 minutes and go ahead and apply for your mountaintop shaman position. And there will be days when you can’t stop laughing. There will be days you feel like you killed your workout. There will be days when you wonder if you’ve ever actually worked out before.

Have grace. Have perseverance. It’s worth it.
